Machines and Colloid Mills for Insecticide Production
Machines and Colloid Mills for Insecticide Production
Probst & Class develop and manufacture colloid mills for Insecticide Production.
Every end product needs its own bespoke machine configuration.
Our strategy for perfect customisation: puclab.

puclab – Pilot
Make an appointment for preliminary tests in our pilot plant.
We give you and your product as much time as needed. Together with your technicians/engineers, we determine the best possible configuration for your new PUC machine in our test lab and plan its integration into your process.

puclab – On-Site
Test a PUC mill in your plant or laboratory.
Talk to our technical support to define the requirements for your process and product. We then provide you with a suitable machine, free of charge, and offer support for your in-house trials.

puclab – Remote
Send us your raw materials for testing.
Based on your specifications and materials, we determine the best machine configuration for your end product in our technical centre. Using different grinder sets and settings, we can calculate within a few hours how your new PUC mill needs to be configured, without charge.

Efficient processing of complex formulations
Insecticides typically contain lipophilic, insoluble actives that must be dispersed in the carrier phase as an emulsion or suspension. Depending on the specification, highly viscous concentrates, oil-based carriers or crystalline solids may be involved. The key challenge is to homogenise these chemically and physically dissimilar components completely, produce a fine dispersion and stabilise the system for the long term—regardless of transport or storage—without sacrificing efficacy or ease of use.
This is where our colloid mills come into their own. Engineered for high-energy mixtures, they create droplet and particle sizes in the micrometer range. The result is exceptionally stable emulsions and suspensions that neither separate nor sediment throughout their shelf life.
Stable homogeneous product in every batch
A typical insecticide may contain systemic actives such as cypermethrin or permethrin, which are oily and viscous at ambient temperature; other products rely on powdered actives that are difficult to saturate and disperse in water. PUC colloid mills supply the shear energy required to incorporate both liquid and solid actives efficiently in the carrier medium. Agglomerates are reliably broken down and oil droplets are finely distributed. The precise concentricity of our rotor–stator systems delivers reproducible particle-size distributions from batch to batch, ensuring consistently reliable product quality.
Smooth processing of highly viscous concentrates
Many insecticides are marketed as concentrates to reduce transport and storage costs. These formulations are highly viscous and hard to process with conventional agitators. Our colloid mills are purpose-built for such demanding products: they not only homogenise reliably but also generate sufficient pressure to convey the substance through the shear gap without an auxiliary pump. This keeps the operation safe and efficient and allows for compact production lines.
Clean and safe operation
The machines can be drained almost completely, reducing product loss and greatly simplifying cleaning—critical because even trace residues from one formulation can contaminate the next batch.
Flexible integration and long-term spare parts support
PUC colloid mills are available to suit both batch and inline operations and integrate easily into standard process lines. ATEX-compliant versions can be supplied for explosion-hazard formulations. We also guarantee long-term availability of spare parts, safeguarding sustainable operation and protecting your investment.
Whether you manufacture an emulsifiable or suspension concentrate, PUC colloid mills enable you to produce insecticides that are stable, high quality and cost-effective.
Probst & Class as a Supplier to the Chemical Industry
Probst & Class mills are "state-of-the-art" machines that have been used in the chemical industry for 80 years. Using a PUC, both small outfits and large industrial companies produce insecticides of consistently highest quality.
The high manufacturing quality of PUC machines typically ensures a service life of several decades. The supply of replacement and spare parts, even for very early models, guarantees a secure investment and low total cost of ownership over the entire life cycle of the machines.
Find your ideal machine, reliably and quickly
In the almost 100-year history of Probst & Class, there is one constant: Practically every end product needs its own individual machine configuration!
Two special features of Probst & Class guarantee the highest satisfaction and loyalty of our customers: The simple convertibility of our machines and our approach to customisation.
What has been part of our success for decades is now a strategy. We call this strategy puclab.
puclab is more than a development lab
- System consulting: Holistic concepts for the construction of new systems and the conversion of systems to other products
- Outsourced R&D for our customers' wet grinding, mixing and degassing processes
- Preliminary trials to help decide on the optimal process
- Further development of processes in case of changed specifications
- Application database with test set-ups, test results and videos
